CONAKRY, REPUBLIC OF GUINEA – The Société des Mines de Fer de Guinée (“SMFG”) is pleased to announce the launch of its website – www.smfg.com – as of 28 August 2020.  This site presents the main elements of the company’s Nimba Iron Ore Project, a proposed iron-ore mine in the southeast of the Republic of Guinea.  It provides information also on SMFG’s policies and standards, board of directors and senior staff.

SMFG has been a permanent presence in the Lola Prefecture for over fifteen years. During this time SMFG has developed strong relationships with local communities and carried out unparalleled studies of the environmental baseline of the Nimba Mountains. SMFG’s new website explains how it is addressing the social and environmental sensitivities of region where the proposed project is located.  It includes context on the Nimba Mountains – history, biodiversity, threats, social challenges – and explains the project’s environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) and additional measures underway and planned by SMFG to ensure that the mining project contributes meaningfully to sustainable local development and to improving the conservation status of the Nimba Mountains.

The website is launched initially in English, to be followed later in 2020 with a French-language version together with an accessible social media platform.
